Memories are important ingredients in our life and there are moments which remain etched in our minds over the years. Here is one of such silly yet eventful memories.
Year was 2007, month December and the clock was ticking at around 2 am. An intense discussion was on among 4 bachelors (me included in that) who were renting out a small 2 BHK house. There were 5 actually. One of them wasn’t part of that discussion and was supposedly sleeping in the other room. The occasion, we all had come home after watching Aamir’s directorial debut and perhaps his masterpiece (his first and last work as director till date) Taare Zameen Par and the topic of discussion was SRK is nowhere near Aamir (Topic modified for public viewing 😉 )
Couple of strong points leading to the discussion. Firstly and more importantly was that I was the sole SRK fan and the other 3 were anti-SRK. Though I always maintained that my admiration for SRK is not because of his acting prowess but because of the manner he built his kingdom in Bollywood from scratch with great deal of struggle and sacrifices. I am a huge fan of Aamir too since I know he is at the top as far as acting is concerned. The second reason was that the latest release of SRK was Om Shanti Om which like all Farah Khan movies was as brainless as her. So brainless that it overshadowed SRK’s brilliant performance in Chak De.
Coming to the chain of events, we four were seated just beside our window. The night was quiet, the room small and our voices with the energy of the fresh college passed guys were at the highest pitch, thus resonating well in the neighborhoods. The war of words was on, demeaning SRK and praising Aamir to the core. When suddenly we heard something at our window.Someone was banging at it through some rod. We went quiet suddenly. The banging was followed by some words in broken English, the essence of which was that we are useless, have no work and are spoiling neighbors’ sleep. We got our warning and heeded to it, but only for 10-15 minutes. After 10-15 minutes of eerie silence, the voices were back at the same amplitude and frequency.
15 minutes later, there was another banging. And this time it wasn’t at the window. It was at the door. We kind of froze. It was a ‘Who will bell the cat?’ situation. We were pushing at each other to open the door. The 5th guy had also woken up hearing the stuff happening. Finally one of more genuine looking mates of us dared to open the door. We found our neighbor in full anger woken up in sleep and uttering similar broken words in English, cursing us, cursing the owner for giving flat to bachelors and threatening us.Well, we took what we deserved and said it won’t happen again, closed the door and the topic and let everyone sleep. Everyone includes us, neighbors, SRK and Aamir.
We woke up thinking it to be a pass-away event. But it wasn’t to be. Our adventures had reached the ears of our owner sitting in Middle East the next morning itself. He didn’t tell it directly but gave us an indirect excuse to vacate the house in a month. Hence the fruitful outcome of our important discussion was us being kicked out from our house. Always wished that at least SRK-Aamir should know this. Our pain would have been lesser then 🙂
P.S.: Apart from this event we were good bachelors and this story shoudn’t be considered as a supportive argument for not renting out to Bachelors. 😛
